This is the gauge with the widest range of lengths in the line: seventeen sizes, from 80 to 330 millimetres, under a single diameter reference. The long ones reach across adult long bone and the short ones handle short bone without opening another reference in the store. At 3.5 mm the pin gives the rigidity that load-bearing fixation demands, where a finer gauge would flex.
Supplied non-sterile, so the hospital can process it in its own autoclave cycle along with the rest of the instrument set. It is a single-use device: it is not reprocessed once implanted.
